"We don’t have to manhandle equipment on and off trailers. This vehicle is purpose built for grounds maintenance and parkland care, but it is also useful for other services where you have to shift a heavy load, or deliver goods somewhere.
We have made an efficiency saving on our parking space as well, because rather than a van and a 16ft trailer we now have 48ft of extra space available.
We kept two panel vans in service, and we managed to extend their life. Two are used for verge cutting operations to carry hedge cutters and strimmers on the back. So we now have five vehicles on the fleet. But next year we may even consider another Plant and Go truck"
Paul Stanley, Fleet and Transport Team Leader, Havant Borough Council
Paul Stanley’s grounds maintenance team at Havant Borough Council traditionally used panel vans with 16ft trailers to transport mowers to and from site. Paul recognised that the vans weren’t used to their optimum. So he approached KFS Special vehicl...
The Plant & Go range of vehicles from KFS offer a no compromise solution to the transportation of not only commercial mowers but waste and brush, with the clever use of a range of bolt on options. Anyone with a car licence can drive the vehicle and removing the need to tow a trailer means you no longer have to worry if employees have the necessary driving licence classification or having to operate on a tachograph when towing.
The Plant & Go Range of vehicles from KFS have been developed in partnership with professional landscapers and grounds maintenance companies to offer a no compromise solution to the transportation of not only commercial mowers, chippers and equipment but also waste and brush, with the clever use of a range of bolt on options. Anyone with a car licence can drive the vehicle - removing the need to tow a trailer means you no longer have to worry if employees have the necessary driving licence classification or having to operate on a tachograph when towing. They are ideal for Landscapers, Grounds Maintenance, Gardeners and Greenkeepers, allowing most equipment to be transported without a trailer.
The Plant & Go range have been tested with a wide range of mowers and other equipment, including Ransomes Jacobsen, Kubota, Hayter and Scag.
Ground breaking in a number of key areas the vehicle is designed around a fully type approved chassis conversion which when mated to a 2.2 litre 3.5 ton cab has a kerb weight of 1,800kg (dependant on specification). With the floor height of the vehicle being only 530mm from the ground and either 2.0 metre certified aluminium ramps or a full tailgate, loading of equipment is carried out both quickly and safely.
A minimum of 6 (dependant on body length) recessed lashing rings are located in the bed with rope tie down points on the bulk head and chassis underside to ensure equipment can be secured once loaded. Secure storage lockers can be specified which will accommodate the full range of equipment and tools required when on site. The unique stowage method designed by KFS means where ramps are supplied they lock into the side of the truck when not in use to create an area in which general items can be easily carried. Where a tail gate is specified drop sides are supplied (forward of the wheel box) on the vehicle as standard. The specially design extruded ribbed aluminium floor offers excellent levels of grip for both equipment and operatives in all weather conditions, and provides an exceptionally strong floor.
A full width aluminium bulk head with meshed upper section is another standard feature, while a comprehensive range of options are available, including storage lockers and removable meshed high sides making the truck fully flexible and multi functional. Health and safety concerns which would normally come with trailer towing or loading onto a traditional drop side vehicle are removed due to the low floor height and carrying capacity of the truck. Manoeuvrability is another key advantage, when arriving on site having the mower on the prime mover and not on a trailer means loading and unloading is much simpler. Whole life costs are substantially reduced as you are servicing and maintaining one unit rather than two.
The vehicle is available in 2 wheel bases and 3 body lengths. With the combination of deck height and ramp length, even plant with minimal forward drive can be loaded. The range of options for landscaping equipment and grounds maintenance equipment include a winch, additional ramps and extra tie rings.
